Evangelisation: Encounter, Discipleship, Mission

In 2023 the Australian Bishops Commission for Evangelisation Laity and Ministry released a biblical theological reflection for all Catholics to discern evangelisation in their lives through the example of Jesus.

'Evangelisation: Encounter, Discipleship, Mission' reflects on scripture and also keep in mind the important articulation of Catholic evangelisation from Pope St Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi (1975) 6-16. In these important paragraphs from this kind of magna carta on evangelisation in the modern world, St Paul VI orients us “From Christ the Evangeliser to the Evangelising Church”.

Open the Way to Christ: Fostering a Pastoral Ministry of Sport
Open the Way to Christ

In June 2024, the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry published a statement on the opportunity that sport presents for an encounter with Jesus. This statement was developed over a period of almost 12 months, with the help of a team of experts, before being approved by the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry.

The statement examines the place of sport in Australia, the strong connection between sport and the Catholic Church in Australia, the opportunity for all people to be involved in sport in some way, and the potential that sport has to develop character and aid in the growth of virtue.

Faithful Stewards of God's Grace

Faithful Stewards of God’s Grace recounts the early growth of the Church in Australia and the invaluable contribution of the lay women and men and the religious sisters and brothers who with their priests built the Church and built up the Church. The document outlines the ministries and the mission of the Church and invites all of us to share our gifts with the Catholic community.

Faithful Stewards of God’s Grace has been prepared by the members of the Council for Lay Pastoral Ministry for the Bishops Commission for Church Ministry and it provides a solid theological and pastoral underpinning for lay pastoral ministry. It is presented as a working e-document, so it may be updated with support documentation on a regular basis and be an ongoing support to the lay pastoral ministries of the Church.

Anointed and SentAnointed and sent

Anointed and Sent is a common vision of the Australian Catholic Bishops for animating and nurturing the spiritual life of young people. The document calls faith communities proactively to engage with young people as they grow in faith and help grow the faithful. It proposes three challenging goals and eight ‘focus areas’ or fields of endeavour for youth ministry today.
