Evangelise: A Synodal Way

Evangelise: A Synodal Way is a summit of diocesan leaders for evangelisation. Hosted by the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry, invitations have been extended to Australian Bishop’s representatives and leaders of organisations in relation with the commission. The summit is limited to those invited by the BCELM.

The summit will reflect on the BCELM statement, Evangelisation: Encounter, Discipleship, Mission; and encourage synodal dialogue through spiritual conversation about Church structure and support for evangelisation, and strategies for evangelisation in the world today.

Breaking open
BCELM Evangelisation statement establishing language and inclusions. Discussion amongst delegates – how to use the statement locally.

4pm – 5pm: Session 2

Spiritual Conversations and Synodality
Panel: Listening to the Holy Spirit moving around us. A reflective process and discussion time.

5:00pm - 6pm: Mass (Archbishop Prowse)

7:00pm – 8:15pm: Session 3

Dinner & Synodal Dialogue
Facilitated and free discussion amongst delegates.

8:15pm-8:30pm: Synodal Reflection

Thursday 13th June

Introduction to BCELM statement on Charism, exploring and applying to local experience.

11:15am 12:15pm– Session 5

Synodal Dialogue (Intra -Ecclesia)
Open space discussing:

    • Balancing governance (finances, safeguarding, risk, and administration) and the pre-eminent task of evangelisation.
    • Addressing the needs of young people and an aging demographic.
    • Developing a great love for the Eucharist among our people.
    • Ways to effect culture change and synodality in Australian parishes/communities.

12:15pm – 12:30pm Synodal Reflection

  • What are we hearing from our time together? How can I respond in my own setting?

12:30pm: Lunch

2pm- 3:30pm: Session 6

EVANGELISATION: EXTRA-ECCLESIA

Exploring ways Church can be present in the world as witnesses e.g. sports, culture, peripheries.

4:15pm – 5:30 Session 7

Synodal Dialogue (Extra -Ecclesia)
Open space discussing themes requested by Directors.

    • How can dioceses use digital technologies in a secular environment.
    • How to best reach the unaffiliated – accompaniment and proclamation of the kerygma.
    • Sports Ministry engagement in Australian culture.

5:30pm – 6pm Synodal Reflection

6pm: Dinner in own groups

Friday 14th June

Sharing from leaders and participants reflecting on the experience and looking forward.
