A resource from the Australian Catholic Bishops' National Centre for Evangelisation

WELCOME to our June 2021 edition of The Bridge, where we continue to share stories and reflections on communities, resources and the people of God seeking to evangelise Australia.

We open this issue with a new approach to sharing stories via The Bridge. We have Bishop Columba Macbeth-Green OSPPE and Hugo Ditroia from Wilcannia-Forbes discuss via video their relationship as Bishop and chancellor. We also hear the story of "Call to Connect", an initiative by women to connect online for prayer and fellowship across rural dioceses. In the lead-up to the ACBC Men’s Gathering in late July we consider the rise of Catholic men’s groups in Australia and look at the development of the Frassati Fraternity. All Saints Parish in Brisbane shares its story of transition in welcoming a new parish priest and the reflection and renewal it brought. Inspired by our most popular Catholic Enquiry Centre question, "How do I get a copy of my Baptism certificate?", we look at the evangelising role of parish secretaries as they balance encounters with seekers and disaffiliated, while administering parish communities to nurture the faithful. Finally, we continue our work to broaden and highlight work in new media and explore some emerging Catholic podcasts in Australia.

We receive ongoing positive feedback on the diversity of stories in The Bridge. We continue to seek unique stories of evangelisation initiatives and the work of co-responsible laity in Australia, so please share your initiatives with us via info@nce.catholic.org.au

Every blessing,

Clergy move brings new opportunities: All Saints Parish, Albany Creek

"Clergy moves" is an aspect of Church life that most priests and parishioners know they must live through every few years. It can be a challenging time for all concerned. The priest must pack up his belongings, say his farewells, move to a place — usually not of his choosing — and then attempt to settle into his new surroundings.

Parish Secretaries: Frontline evangelists

One of the most common questions asked of the Catholic Enquiry Centre is “How do I get a copy of my Baptism certificate?” Such enquirers are required to connect with the parish where they were baptised, and in most cases with a parish secretary.
