WELCOME to our April 2021 edition of The Bridge, where we continue to share stories and reflections on communities, resources and the people of God seeking to evangelise Australia.
In this issue we consider a number of perspectives on how the Church and social culture intersect. Fr Stephen Hackett MSC, General Secretary of the Bishops Conference, explains how art continues to be a component of our evangelisation. Matthew Biddle of the NCE explores the urgent need for the Church to expand its evangelical engagement into new media and mediums including gaming, apps and podcasts, while the NCE team reflects on Pope Francis' invitation for World Communications Day to "Come and See", to move beyond our screens and interact with real people and stories. We hear how the Milton Parish's response to their local community's needs continues one year on from the 2020 bushfires. Finally, we review two initiatives of the NCE: the Catholic Enquiry Centre's snapshot of work during 2020, and the recent Women’s Consultation hosted by the
Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry.
In recent months the NCE has regrouped its social media profiles and now has four main profiles to promote its scope of works. These are all on Facebook, with some connected accounts: National Centre for Evangelisation, Catholic Enquiry Centre, Catholic Women Australia, Catholic Youth Australia. Please follow these pages to source latest news and ongoing networks in these areas. The NCE has also collated its resources into a central promotional tool which can be found in the 'Resources' section of this edition of The Bridge.
The Bridge seeks to share stories of evangelisation and co-responsibility in the Church in Australia, so please share your local initiatives with us via info@nce.catholic.org.au.
Every blessing,
Malcolm Hart
Director, National Centre for Evangelisation
